Description
Jebel Akhdar (الجبل الأخضر), meaning “Green Mountain”, is a highland region of the Al Hajar Mountains, rising to more than 2,000 meters around the Saiq Plateau. Its cooler climate supports terraces of roses, pomegranates, walnuts, and other fruit, traditionally irrigated through Oman’s ancient falaj water systems. Villages such as Al Ayn and Ash Sharayjah cling to the steep mountainsides, offering a glimpse into centuries-old farming traditions and mountain life. The region is especially famous for its Damask roses, whose blossoms are distilled into fragrant rosewater. Scenic viewpoints such as Diana’s Point and the abandoned village of Wadi Bani Habib add to Jebel Akhdar’s appeal as a striking mountain escape above Oman’s arid landscapes.
