Description

Salalah (صلالة) is the lush oasis city of Dhofar in southern Oman and a distinctive center of nature, history, and frankincense culture. The city is known for the Khareef, the summer monsoon that transforms the surrounding mountains into a verdant landscape of mist, waterfalls, and grazing land. Highlights include Wadi Darbat, the coast around Mughsail, and the archaeological ruins of Al Baleed, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Land of Frankincense”. Salalah combines the ancient traditions of the frankincense trade with palm groves, long sandy beaches, and the distinctive culture of Dhofar. As the region’s main city, it is also the gateway to one of the Arabian Peninsula’s most unusual landscapes.
