Description
Sur (صُور) is a historic port city in eastern Oman and an important center of traditional seafaring. The city is renowned for its wooden dhows, built here for centuries using time-honored techniques and once carrying Omani traders as far as East Africa and India. Shipyards, the Maritime Museum, and historic buildings along the bay reflect Sur’s rich maritime heritage. Across the lagoon, Al Ayjah features a distinctive white lighthouse and traditional merchant houses. The nearby Bilad Sur Fort adds another layer to the city’s history. Around 40 kilometers east of Sur lies Ras Al Jinz, an important nesting site for green sea turtles and one of Oman’s most remarkable natural attractions.
