Short description of Tabriz
Tabriz (تبریز) is the largest city of Iranian Azerbaijan and was long the country’s gate to the Caucasus and Anatolia. Its covered bazaar is one of the oldest and largest in the world and is listed by UNESCO, a maze of brick domes with separate halls for carpets, gold and spices. The Blue Mosque keeps fragments of its famous tilework, and the Azerbaijan Museum holds finds from the whole northwest. El Goli park with its pavilion on a lake is the city’s evening promenade. Turkic is the everyday language here, and the cave village of Kandovan lies in the hills to the south.
