Short description of Kashan
Kashan (کاشان) sits between the central desert and the mountains and is known for the merchant houses of its old town. Tabatabaei, Borujerdi and Ameri were built around sunken courtyards with wind towers, stucco and stained glass, and several now take guests. The Fin Garden outside town is the oldest surviving Persian garden and is listed by UNESCO, fed by a spring that still runs through its channels. The Sultan Amir Ahmad bathhouse, the Agha Bozorg Mosque and a long covered bazaar fill the centre. Rosewater is distilled in nearby Qamsar, and the Maranjab desert with its salt lake begins east of the city.
