Description
Schellenberg is the smallest municipality of Liechtenstein by population and the place the country is partly named for, since the lordship of Schellenberg was one of the two territories the Liechtenstein family bought to create the principality. Two castle ruins stand in the woods on the ridge above the village, the lower one with a tower that can be climbed for a view across the Rhine into Austria. A reconstructed neolithic pile dwelling and the Biedermann house museum stand nearby. Forest paths link all of them on a single circuit. The whole circuit takes an easy afternoon and stays in the shade of the wood.
