Description
Ruggell is the northernmost and lowest municipality of Liechtenstein and holds the Ruggeller Riet, the largest nature reserve in the country and the last remnant of the fen that once filled the whole Rhine valley floor. Boardwalks and gravel paths cross it. In late May the fen turns blue with wild Siberian iris flowering in tens of thousands, which is the one week of the year the village fills with visitors. Curlew, snipe and harriers breed in the reeds. The rest of the year the reserve is a quiet flat circuit for walking and cycling.
