Description
Samos (Σάμος) is a lush island in the eastern Aegean, close to the coast of Asia Minor, combining impressive natural beauty with a rich history. The island is known as the birthplace of the philosopher and mathematician Pythagoras and is renowned for its aromatic Muscat wines, forested mountains, vineyards and picturesque villages. Places such as Pythagoreio and Kokkari invite visitors to linger among their harbours, sheltered bays and traditional tavernas. Ancient landmarks include the Heraion and the Eupalinos Tunnel, a 1,036 metre long aqueduct from the 6th century BC. Pythagoreion and the Heraion are UNESCO World Heritage sites. Samos combines Mediterranean landscapes, ancient culture and Aegean island life.
