Mykonos

Mykonos (Μύκονος) is a small, rocky island in the Cyclades and one of the most famous Greek islands. Its main town, the Chora, is a maze of whitewashed lanes, small churches and shops around the harbour. In Little Venice, houses with wooden balconies stand at the water's edge, and above them the windmills of Kato Mili line a ridge. The white Panagia Paraportiani, several chapels merged into one, is a landmark of the old town.

Beaches line the south coast. Psarou, Platys Gialos and Ornos are sheltered bays, while Paradise, Super Paradise and Elia are known for beach clubs and parties. Inland, the village of Ano Mera keeps a rural character around the Monastery of Panagia Tourliani. Boats cross to Delos, the sacred island of Apollo and a UNESCO World Heritage site, and to neighbouring Rhenia. Show more

Mykonos is a cosmopolitan destination with boutiques, restaurants and nightlife that runs late in summer. Local specialities include kopanisti, a tangy soft cheese, and louza, a cured pork. The Archaeological, Folklore and Aegean Maritime museums tell the island's story. Mykonos has an international airport, and ferries connect it with Piraeus, Rafina and the neighbouring Cyclades.
