Description
Paga is the last town in Ghana before Burkina Faso, and the border post is a few hundred metres from the crocodile pond it is known for. The West African crocodiles here are treated as sacred, held to carry the souls of the townspeople, and have not attacked anyone in living memory, so guides call one out of the water with a live chicken and visitors sit on its back for a photograph. Whether that reads as remarkable or uncomfortable is a matter of taste, and both reactions are common.
