Description
Kakum protects one of the last blocks of undisturbed rainforest in southern Ghana, and what nearly everyone comes for is the canopy walkway, a chain of seven rope-and-plank bridges strung between emergent trees three hundred and fifty metres end to end and forty metres above the forest floor. It was built in 1995 by Canadian engineers with local carpenters and remains the only one of its kind in Africa. Forest elephants and bongo live here but are seen so rarely that a guided dawn walk is the realistic way to see anything at all.
