Description
Limnos (Λήμνος) is Greece’s eighth largest island and one of the flattest in the Aegean. Its broad, volcanic landscape combines fertile plains, wheat fields and vineyards with long, often deserted beaches. Poliochni on the east coast ranks among Europe’s oldest urban settlements, with remarkably early streets, wells and public buildings. Myrina, the island’s port and main town, is dominated by a historic fortress rising above a rocky peninsula, where fallow deer still roam within its walls. In the north, strong winds shape the extensive sand dunes of Gomati, giving Limnos an unusually wild and timeless landscape.
