Description
Euboea (Εύβοια) is Greece’s second largest island after Crete and is connected to the mainland by two bridges. A popular getaway for Athenians, the island combines varied coastlines with mountains, forests, gorges and thermal springs. In Chalkida, the Euripus Strait is known for its regularly reversing currents, a natural phenomenon that puzzled people as far back as antiquity. In the north, highlights include the thermal springs of Edipsos, waterfalls and historic monasteries, while the south is shaped by Mount Ochi, its enigmatic Drakospita stone houses and the Dimosari Gorge. Euboea combines nature, history and traditional villages while remaining less visited than Greece’s most famous islands.
