Short description of Bulunkul
Bulunkul is a handful of houses beside a small lake on the high plateau, holding the record for the coldest temperature ever measured in the country. A short walk or a rough drive west brings you to Yashilkul, much larger and greener, fed by springs that steam along one shore. Fishing supplies the village and dinner in a homestay usually means whatever came out of the water that day. Almost every visitor arrives in the weeks between the melt and the first hard frost. Outside those weeks the settlement shrinks to the few families who overwinter.
