Description
Aegina (Αίγινα) is one of the most easily accessible islands in the Saronic Gulf and a popular destination for a day trip from Athens. The island is known for its pistachio groves, neoclassical harbor town and the impressive Temple of Aphaia, built around 500 BC. Aegina combines ancient history with the origins of modern Greece, as the island served as the first capital of the newly established Greek state under Ioannis Kapodistrias. Small harbors, traditional villages, Mediterranean landscapes and scenic coastlines shape the island’s character. The tranquil village of Perdika, with its waterfront tavernas, offers a more peaceful side of Aegina.
