Description
Wilpattu National Park (විල්පත්තුව) in northwestern Sri Lanka is the country’s largest and oldest national park and is renowned for its numerous natural lakes known as “villus”. The diverse landscape of dry forest, scrubland, grasslands and wetlands provides habitat for leopards, sloth bears, elephants, water buffalo, crocodiles and a rich variety of birdlife. Safaris follow sandy tracks through the expansive wilderness and around the forest surrounded villus, where wildlife often gathers near the water. The remote coastal landscape around Kudiramalai Point adds a layer of historical and legendary significance to the park. Wilpattu combines pristine nature, diverse wildlife and striking landscapes into a distinctive safari experience.
