Description
Sri Pada (ශ්රී පාද), also known as “Adam’s Peak”, is one of Sri Lanka’s most important pilgrimage mountains and a sacred site for Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims and Christians. Rising to 2,243 metres, the mountain is renowned for the sacred footprint at its summit, which different religious traditions attribute to Buddha, Shiva, Adam or Saint Thomas. The ascent over thousands of steps is particularly atmospheric at night, when pilgrims climb towards the summit during the pilgrimage season from December to May. At sunrise, clear conditions can reveal sweeping views across the central highlands, while the mountain’s distinctive triangular shadow may appear under favourable conditions. Sri Pada combines spiritual significance, natural beauty and a centuries-old pilgrimage tradition.
