Mirissa (මිරිස්ස) is a popular coastal town on Sri Lanka’s southern coast, known for its crescent-shaped bay with golden sand, palm trees and a relaxed tropical atmosphere. The town is an important base for whale watching, with blue whales, sperm whales and various dolphin species among the marine life that can be spotted offshore. Mirissa combines laid-back beach life with surfing, small restaurants and beach cafés, as well as distinctive viewpoints such as Parrot Rock and Coconut Tree Hill. The bay and its surroundings invite visitors to swim, explore and unwind. Nearby Weligama, with its wide bay and gentle waves, complements Mirissa as part of Sri Lanka’s diverse southern coast.
