Description
Vlkolínec is a hillside village of forty five log houses above Ružomberok and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, listed as the most complete surviving example of a central European village of this kind. The houses are built of squared logs, plastered and limewashed in blue, ochre and pink, with steep shingled roofs and a stream running down the single lane between them. A wooden bell tower of 1770 stands in the middle. Around thirty people still live there permanently, and the meadows behind are cut by hand. The village is walked through in half an hour and has no shops.
