Description
Bardejov (Bartfeld) is the best preserved medieval town in Slovakia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, still enclosed by its walls and bastions with a long square of burgher houses running between the Gothic church of Saint Giles and the Renaissance town hall. The church holds eleven surviving winged altars, the largest such group anywhere. A small Jewish suburb with its synagogue and ritual bath stands outside the walls. The spa quarter north of the town has drunk its mineral springs since the eighteenth century. The walled centre is compact and seen comfortably in a morning.
