Demänovská Valley
Slovakia · Liptov · 870 m
Description
The Demänovská Valley (Demänovská dolina) cuts into the Low Tatras south of Liptovský Mikuláš and holds the largest cave system in Slovakia, more than forty kilometres of mapped passage of which two sections are open. The Cave of Liberty is a warm cave of flowstone curtains and pools, while the Ice Cave a little further up holds permanent ice and can only be opened in the warm months. Above the valley the Jasná ski area covers both sides of Chopok and is the largest in the country, with a cable car running to the ridge. Cave visits are guided and the temperature inside stays near freezing.
