Description
Bratislava is the capital of Slovakia and the only capital in the world that borders two countries, sitting on the Danube where Austria and Hungary meet. Its white castle stands on a rock above the river with four corner towers, and the compact old town below is a run of pastel baroque facades, a Gothic cathedral where Hungarian kings were crowned and a Renaissance town hall. Bronze statues sit in the pavement, including a workman leaning out of a manhole. Vineyards climb the Little Carpathians immediately north of the city. The centre is small enough that everything lies within a twenty minute walk.
