Union Island
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines · Grenadines · 15 m
Description
Union Island is the southern gateway of the Grenadines, the last port of entry before Carriacou and Grenada and the place most charter itineraries begin or end. Clifton is the town, a single street between the airstrip and a reef protected harbour where the anchorage runs right up to a bar built on its own tiny sand island. The flats east of town get a steady trade wind across shallow water and have made Union the kitesurfing centre of the chain. Behind everything Mount Taboi rises steeply, and Chatham Bay on the far side is empty. Hurricane Beryl destroyed most of the island's buildings in 2024 and Clifton is still rebuilding.
