Description
La Soufrière is the volcano that made St. Vincent and the northern third of the island is its slope. It erupted explosively in April 2021, emptied the north of its population for months and dropped ash on Barbados, and the crater has changed shape since the last guidebooks were printed. Both trails are open again, the windward side from Rabacca through old banana land and the leeward side from Chateaubelair, and each is a full day. The rock is raw and the vegetation is coming back in stages, which makes the walk a fairly recent geology lesson.
