Description
Unawatuna (උණවටුන) is a popular beach destination on Sri Lanka’s southern coast, located just a short distance from the historic city of Galle. The coastal town is known for its palm fringed, crescent shaped bay, lush tropical vegetation and relatively sheltered waters, which offer good conditions for swimming and snorkeling. Unawatuna combines relaxed beach life with restaurants, beach bars and accommodation, as well as attractions such as Jungle Beach, the Japanese Peace Pagoda and the legendary Rumassala Hill. Its proximity to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Galle Fort and the region’s renowned diving sites makes Unawatuna a versatile base for exploring the beaches, nature and culture of Sri Lanka’s southern coast.
