Description
Ukulhas (އުކުޅަސް) is a local island in the Alif Alif Atoll of the Maldives, best known for its strong commitment to environmental protection. The island introduced a systematic waste management program, separating household waste and recycling reusable materials. For its efforts, Ukulhas has received national recognition, including the Green Leaf Award. Its well maintained Bikini Beach, shallow turquoise waters and accessible house reef make the island a popular destination for snorkellers and independent travellers. Sea turtles, reef sharks and colourful reef fish can often be spotted nearby. Small, family run guesthouses offer a more affordable alternative to the large resorts. Ukulhas can be reached from Malé by ferry or speedboat.
