Description
Maamigili (މާމިގިލި) is one of the largest inhabited islands in the southern Ari Atoll and an important base for whale shark encounters in the Maldives. The island has its own international airport and lies alongside the South Ari Marine Protected Area, a world renowned marine sanctuary where whale sharks can be found year round. Maamigili combines the character of a Maldivian local island with guesthouses, fishing, harbor activity and traditional crafts. The surrounding reefs offer excellent opportunities for snorkeling and diving, with whale sharks joined by manta rays, sea turtles and various species of sharks in the waters around the island.
