Description
Baa Atoll (ބާ) is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and one of the Maldives’ most important marine areas. It is best known for Hanifaru Bay, where large amounts of plankton gather during the southwest monsoon, attracting exceptional numbers of manta rays and occasional whale sharks. The protected reef bay is one of the Maldives’ most spectacular places to observe these marine animals. The atoll combines vibrant coral reefs, sandy islands and tranquil lagoons with luxurious resorts and inhabited islands such as Dharavandhoo and Maalhos. During the wet monsoon season, manta ray sightings in Hanifaru reach their peak, making Baa Atoll a remarkable destination for nature and underwater experiences.
