Description
Hulhumalé (ހުޅުމާލެ) is an artificial island in the Maldives and a modern urban district of the Greater Malé area. Created through land reclamation in the lagoon between the capital and the international airport, it was developed to provide housing and ease the pressure on densely populated Malé. The island combines broad streets, new residential neighborhoods, hotels, guesthouses, shops, and a long sandy beach along its eastern coast. Road connections link Hulhumalé with the airport island and Malé, making it particularly convenient for travelers with early flights or overnight layovers. With its spacious streets, modern buildings, and open areas, the young city offers a striking contrast to crowded and historic Malé.
