Tangalle

Sri Lanka · Southern Province

Description

Tangalle (තංගල්ල) is a coastal town on Sri Lanka’s southern coast, known for its wide bays, golden sandy beaches and varied coastal landscape. Bays such as Medaketiya, Medilla, Goyambokka and Pallikkudawa offer different beaches and swimming conditions. East of Tangalle lies Rekawa, one of Sri Lanka’s important nesting grounds for sea turtles, where guided night-time observations can be arranged as part of a conservation project. Inland, the Mulkirigala Rock Temple rises above the surrounding landscape with its cave shrines, Buddha images and historic murals. Tangalle combines expansive beaches, natural attractions and cultural heritage, making it a distinctive part of Sri Lanka’s southern coast.
