Struga
North Macedonia · Southwestern Macedonia · 700 m
Description
Struga stands at the point where Lake Ohrid empties into the Black Drin, and the river running out through the middle of town is what distinguishes it from its larger neighbour. Two bridges cross it within a few hundred metres and the promenades along both banks are where the evening happens. The lake beach here is longer and flatter than Ohrid's. Since 1962 the town has held the Struga Poetry Evenings, at which poets read from the bridge over the river, an event that has drawn Auden, Neruda and Ginsberg.
