Description
Ohrid is the most visited place in North Macedonia and one of the few sites anywhere inscribed by UNESCO for both its natural and its cultural value. The lake is among the oldest and deepest in Europe, holding species found nowhere else, and the town stacked above it once had a church for every day of the year. Saint John at Kaneo stands on a cliff over the water and is the image of the country. A Byzantine fortress crowns the hill and an ancient theatre sits on the slope below.
