Description
Sisimiut is Greenland's second largest town, lying just north of the Arctic Circle on a coast of bare rounded hills and open sea. People have lived on this bay for more than four thousand years, and the museum quarter around the blue Bethel church keeps turf houses, kayaks and hunting gear from that long record. The town is the outdoor capital of the country, with dog sledding across the winter fjords, backcountry skiing on Nasaasaaq and the start of the Arctic Circle Trail toward Kangerlussuaq. Fishing and shrimp processing still shape daily life along the busy harbour.
