Description
Nuuk is the capital of Greenland and the political, cultural and economic center of the country, set where one of the world's largest fjord systems meets the Labrador Sea. The city is known for the colorful timber houses of its old colonial harbour, the Greenland National Museum with the Qilakitsoq mummies, the sculptural Katuaq cultural centre and a kitchen built on Arctic seafood, musk ox and reindeer. Behind the town rise the peaks of Sermitsiaq and Ukkusissat, while the Nuup Kangerlua fjord leads to Norse ruins and calving glaciers. Nuuk combines Inuit tradition with modern Nordic architecture and is the main gateway to Greenland.
