Description
Kangerlussuaq sits at the end of a long fjord deep inside the continent and is the easiest place in Greenland to stand on the ice sheet itself. A gravel road built for research runs from the settlement to Point 660, where the inland ice rises in a wall of blue and grey. The tundra along the way is the best musk ox country in the land, grazed also by reindeer and Arctic fox. Dry, stable inland air brings clear skies, long views over the Russell Glacier and reliable northern lights. The settlement itself is small, functional and built around its runway.
