Description
Qaqortoq is the largest town in South Greenland and the liveliest place on this stretch of coast, its red, yellow and blue houses stacked on granite slopes above a sheltered harbour. The town square holds the oldest fountain in Greenland, and more than thirty sculptures carved straight into the surrounding rock form the open-air Stone and Man project. A small museum in a colonial timber house tells the story of Inuit and Danish life here. Boats run to the ruined Norse church of Hvalsey, to the hot springs on Uunartoq island and among the icebergs of the fjords.
