Description
Sighisoara (Sighișoara) is the best preserved inhabited medieval citadel in Europe and has been on the UNESCO list since 1999, a hill of ochre and mustard houses inside a wall with nine surviving towers, each of which was maintained by a different craft guild. People still live in it, which is what the listing turns on. The clock tower carries a set of wooden figures that rotate at midnight, and Vlad Dracul, father of the man who became Dracula, lived in a house on the main square where his son is held to have been born in 1431.
