Description
Constanta (Constanța) is the oldest continuously inhabited city in Romania, founded as the Greek colony of Tomis around 600 before Christ, and the place Ovid was exiled to and died. Its peninsula holds an art nouveau casino standing derelict on the seawall for decades and now restored, a Roman mosaic floor of two thousand square metres under a modern shelter, and a mosque with a minaret you can climb. Mamaia, the sandbar resort strip immediately north, is where the Romanian coast actually goes in summer and holds most of the country's beach tourism.
