Short description of Sehlabathebe National Park
Sehlabathebe is the oldest park in the country and the Lesotho half of the world heritage area shared with the Drakensberg across the escarpment. Sandstone has weathered into arches and mushroom towers scattered over a high grassland that fills with wildflowers after the summer rains. San painters used the shelters here for thousands of years and a good deal of their work is still on the rock. Every approach road is unsurfaced and needs clearance, the lodge is self catering with nothing nearby, and the park sees fewer visitors than anywhere else in the region.
