Short description of Maseru
Maseru lies right on the Caledon with South Africa on the far bank, and the bridge into it is open around the clock, which is why almost everybody who enters the country enters here. It is a low administrative town rather than a beautiful one, strung along Kingsway between the palace and the malls that pull in weekend shoppers from the Free State. The Basotho Hat craft shop, built in the shape of the national headgear, is the standard first stop. Lancer's Gap notches the ridge above town. Everything else in the country is reached from here.
