Short description of Hlotse
Hlotse, which most people here still call Leribe, is the seat of the northern district and the town everybody passes through on the main road up to Oxbow and the high passes. A stone tower built by the British in the eighteen seventies as a lookout still stands near the market, worn but upright, and it came through the Gun War completely intact. The craft centre beside the hospital has employed women with disabilities to weave mohair here since nineteen eleven. Dinosaur footprints lie in a riverbed a short way north of the town itself.
