Short description of Mokhotlong
Mokhotlong is the highest town in the country and for a long time the most cut off, a frontier place of blanketed riders and a Saturday market on a plateau above two thousand two hundred metres. The Senqu, which becomes the Orange and then crosses most of a continent, rises in the mountains just east of here. The second phase of the highlands water scheme is building the Polihali dam downstream, which has brought new tarred access roads and new bridges and will eventually flood part of the old highway. Construction traffic is everywhere on the roads now.
