Short description of Malealea
Malealea is a lodge grown out of a nineteen oh five trading post in a bowl of hills, and it exists for pony trekking. Treks run from an hour to a week, riding Basotho ponies over passes and sleeping in village huts along the way, and the village choir and band play most evenings. The road in crosses the Gates of Paradise pass, which has a stone marker and a view that explains the name. Rock shelters in the Makhaleng gorge below hold San paintings. Most guests arrive intending two nights and end up staying longer.
