Short description of Afriski
Afriski sits up on the Mahlasela pass at well over three thousand metres and is the only lift served ski resort still running anywhere in Africa. The single main run is about a kilometre long and held together by snowmaking, and the season runs from the middle of June through to the end of August. Outside of winter the very same slopes carry mountain bikers, trail runners and the country's own stage race. The approach over the Moteng pass is tarred but ices up, and heavy snow closes both passes for days at a time.
