Description
Sabratha is a Roman port city on the coast west of Tripoli, the westernmost of the three towns that gave Tripolitania its name. Its theatre is the reason most people come, a three storey stage wall of columns rebuilt to full height and standing directly against the sea, one of the most complete Roman stages anywhere. Around it lie the forum, the basilica of Justinian with its mosaic floors, temples to Liber Pater and Isis, and seafront baths whose black and white mosaics are still in place. The site museum holds the finest mosaics lifted from the excavations.
