Description
Misrata is Libya's third city and its busiest commercial port, set where the coast turns south towards the Gulf of Sidra. It has long been a merchant town with strong trading links across the Mediterranean, and its free zone and container terminal now handle much of the country's imports. The old souk still sells carpets woven in the town, a craft Misrata has been known for since Ottoman times. Long empty beaches run east towards Qasr Ahmed, and the Roman coastal road and the ruins at Zliten lie within easy reach to the west.
