Description
Pentecost is a long narrow island of steep ridges and it is famous for one thing, the naghol. Every Saturday between April and June men in the southern villages climb wooden towers up to thirty metres high and dive head first towards the ground with vines tied to their ankles, a harvest rite for the yams that bungee jumping was copied from. Outside those months the island is very quiet, with Bunlap keeping kastom dress and the north around Loltong holding a different language and a Christian mission history. Roads barely exist and most movement is by boat along the coast.
