Espiritu Santo
Vanuatu · Sanma · 10 m
Description
Espiritu Santo is the largest island in Vanuatu and the one with the widest range of things to do. Luganville was an American base for a hundred thousand men in the Second World War, and the leftovers define the diving here, above all the SS President Coolidge, a liner sunk in the channel and reachable from the shore, and Million Dollar Point where the army bulldozed its equipment into the sea. The east coast has Champagne Beach and Port Olry, the freshwater blue holes inland are startlingly clear, and Big Bay and Mount Tabwemasana hold the least visited country in the archipelago.
