Short description of Nisa

Nisa was a royal seat of the Parthians, set on a low mound against the Kopet Dag foothills a short drive west of the capital. Old Nisa is the inscribed part, a ring of eroded mud brick walls and towers enclosing a round hall, a tower temple and the building read as a treasury. Little has been rebuilt, so the pleasure is the shape of the earthworks and the mountain wall behind them. The carved ivory drinking horns that made the place famous are kept in the capital. Most travellers come out for a half day.
