Short description of Daşoguz
Daşoguz is the northern provincial capital, a flat cotton town on the old Khorezm oasis close to the Uzbek frontier. Almost everyone who stays is there to reach the ruins upriver or to cross the border towards Urgench the next morning. The centre offers a museum, a large mosque and a long busy bazaar, and that is honestly the extent of it. What rewards a spare afternoon lies outside, where eroded Khorezmian fortresses sit alone in the fields and the desert beyond them. The train from the capital crosses the whole Karakum to get here.
